The plant is a small shrub with aromatic berries that exceptionally reaches five to six meters in height in the forests of the Camargue. Native to America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, this tree commonly reaches 4 to 15 meters in height in the wild, and even 25 to 30 meters for some species. Some juniper species can live for over 1,000 years.

Juniper trees produce green false fruits that turn blue, brown, or black when ripe. It is these berries and small twigs that are distilled. The essential oil is a major component of the aromatic repertoire: antirheumatic and diuretic, it eliminates uric acid.

Juniper hydrosol is an excellent diuretic; it helps with rheumatism and pain. It is also a key ingredient in detox programs. It promotes intestinal elimination and gives very good results against constipation.
