composition / essential oils
litsea cubeba essential oil (exotic verbena / lemon litsea)
exotic verbena is an evergreen shrub about one metre tall, found in tropical areas. Native to Asia, it is mainly cultivated in China, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Taiwan and India. In China, its dried flowers are placed in homes to bring calm, serenity and peace. The Romans considered it a sacred plant used to purify and perfume altars dedicated to Jupiter; in the Middle Ages, it was said to be used in love potions. Its leaves produce berries from which an oil with a sweet, lemony scent reminiscent of lemon verbena or lemongrass is extracted through steam distillation. Exotic verbena essential oil is known for its relaxing properties in cases of temporary depression. When diffused, it brings calm and serenity, creates a joyful atmosphere and promotes harmony in the air indoors. It is also anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, a digestive tonic, purifying and cleansing. It is used in cases of stress, anxiety, anguish, low energy, sleep disorders, muscle pain (tendinitis, rheumatism), loss of appetite, parasites and fungal infections. It is an excellent insecticide. In beauty care, it purifies oily and acne-prone skin. Lemon litsea essential oil can be used in massage oils, beauty and bath products, aromatherapy diffusers, rubs and aromatic drinks, diluted in other essential oils or in a vegetable oil.
sweet orange essential oil
the sweet orange tree, native to China, is an evergreen shrub with deep green foliage that releases citrus essences when rubbed. This tree, which grows to a height of about 3 metres, can live for up to 400 years in a temperate climate with mild winters. The white, highly fragrant flowers produce sweet oranges, from which the essential oil is extracted by cold pressing the zest. It is a yellow oil with a fresh, sweet, sugary and fruity scent. It is known for its cleansing and purifying properties. It also helps with digestive problems; It is a nervous system sedative, calming and slightly hypnotic, and helps to combat stress, anxiety, insomnia in children and adults, stomach ache, nausea and colic in infants. Widely used in diffusion (alone or in synergy), it is also used in friction, inhalation, massage oil, aromatic drinks and baths, as well as in beauty products for a fruity note.
mandarin essential oil
the mandarin tree is a small evergreen tree with bright green foliage, native to China, Vietnam and Japan. Mandarin, rich in vitamin C, is ideal in winter to support immunity. Less acidic than other citrus fruits, its sweet and highly fragrant flesh makes it popular in home fragrances (deodorising, purifying and antiseptic). The essential oil is obtained by cold pressing the peel. A nervous system sedative, calming and slightly hypnotic, it helps against insomnia (in both children and adults), stress, nervousness and agitation; it reduces anxiety and temporary depression. As an antispasmodic, it helps with stomach aches, indigestion and constipation, calms hiccups and can be useful during pregnancy and for infant colic. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory digestive properties and supports the liver and gallbladder. A skin tonic, it is useful for acne-prone skin, circulation, water retention and cellulite. Use: rubbing, diffusion, aromatic drink and bath, alone or in synergy.
sweet mint and peppermint essential oils
there are many varieties of mint, native to the Near East, now grown mainly in France, England and North America. The essential oil is obtained by distilling the whole plant. The sweet and peppermint versions have similar properties. Sweet mint is known for its digestive, antibacterial, tonic and aphrodisiac properties; it also aids healing and stress management. It should only be used in aromatic drinks and diffusers: never in rubs or baths (due to its cooling effect on the skin). Peppermint, in a hot digestive drink, is a good substitute for coffee.
